As you get older, you may start to find yourself caught in a bit of a rut. You go to work and then you end up going home. As time passes, you may find yourself living to work instead of working to live. That’s no way to live your life. If you find yourself constantly bringing your work home instead of switching off, clearly your work-life balance is a bit out of whack. Don’t let work entirely take over your life. Instead, take a look at our top 5 ways of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Say NO to additional working hours
One of the worst things you can do at work is to make yourself look like you’re available 24/7 to all of your boss’s commands. Staying late, taking on others’ workloads and just doing more than is justified can make you feel like you’re a doormat.
So next time you are asked to do something new, stop and think about whether or not you should say yes. Instead, say you will get back to the person who is asking the question. This will give you enough time to think through the question reasonably and then let them know your answer. You don’t need to justify your response. Just be strong enough to stick to it and don’t let any colleagues change your mind. This will just add to your stress.
Monitor your time
When you get home from work, you need to monitor how much time you have. You’re not exactly in university anymore and you don’t have all the time in the world to get everything done that you need to during the evening hours. If you finish at 5 pm, you probably have between 5-7 hours to get as much as you can before the night ends. Don’t forget that chilling out and just relaxing is a good use of your time. As long as you can switch off when you finally get home then you monitor how much time you spend on a single activity. You can also throw in some relaxing activities (such as painting, yoga or meditation)
Socialise after work
It’s important to keep up with social commitments once you’re done with work. The last thing that you want to happen is that you become isolated. So, put your down your work and make some plans with your friends, family or even a Croydon escort. You can go out to a restaurant, bar or maybe meet up at one of their houses. This way you can keep up with the daily lives of your relatives and even vent a little about how you are feeling about work. It’s never a good idea to keep your feelings pent up inside about how you feel about your daily life. So, open up to your friends and family after work. It’s a good way to release some steam and feel better about yourself.
Add some gym time
It’s really easy to get back from your long commute and then say that you’re going to skip the gym for the evening. However, this isn’t a good idea. Exercising at the gym is a great way to increase your serotonin levels that can improve your mood, not to mention that it will have a great impact on your weight and overall health. Sitting stationary in a seat all day can negatively affect you, especially if you only ever leave for lunch. Making time for the gym can give you some release. It will also make you feel ready for a good night’s sleep, meaning that you may feel more refreshed and ready to take on your workload tomorrow.
Clubs and Gatherings
A great way to combine the things that you love is by going out to a club. Perhaps you love singing, acting, knitting or drawing? Well, once your work is done for the day, shut off your emails and look around your city for a club that can stimulate your interests. That way you can do something you enjoy, improve on it, as well as meet like-minded individuals that you can bond with. It’s important to have two lives, one at work and one outside of work. That’s why going to a club is a great way of getting this life balance.
Take a break and relax
If you’re feeling sick and tired of work taking over your life, it’s time for you to start sorting out your work-life balance. You deserve to be able to relax once your day is over and start indulging in the things you enjoy. This will leave you in a better mind frame, especially for when you get back to work the next day.
